Sensory and emotional responses to deep pressure stimulation at myofascial trigger points: a pilot study

چکیده
Objective Although manual pressure, such as that used during a massage, is often associated with pain, it can simultaneously be perceived pleasant when applied to certain body areas. We hypothesized stimulation of myofascial trigger points (TPs) leads simultaneous pain and pleasure. TPs are hyperirritable located in the taut band skeletal muscle. Method In this study, we measured muscle tone, stiffness, pressure threshold control left brachioradialis 48 healthy participants. also deep compression two collected subjective data on pleasantness, unpleasantness, relief. Result Greater stiffness was observed versus ( t = 6.55, p < 0.001), significantly lower −6.21, 0.001). Unpleasantness ratings after were compared −2.68, 0.05). Participants experienced greater relief at 2.01, 0.05), although did not differ between types points. Conclusion properties points, found higher tone unpleasantness ratings, These findings suggest that, least for some TPs, pleasantness elicited by stimulation.

Myofascial trigger points.
Painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system, including myofascial pain syndrome, constitute some of the most important chronic problems encountered in a clinical practice. A myofascial trigger points is a hyperirritable spot, usually within a taut band of skeletal muscle, which is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain, motor dysfunction, and autonomic phe...

متن کاملEtiology of Myofascial Trigger Points
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is described as the sensory, motor, and autonomic symptoms caused by myofascial trigger points (TrPs). Knowing the potential causes of TrPs is important to prevent their development and recurrence, but also to inactivate and eliminate existing TrPs. There is general agreement that muscle overuse or direct trauma to the muscle can lead to the development of TrPs. M...

During the past few months, several new studies, reviews and case studies on myofascial pain syndrome [MPS] and myofascial trigger points [TrPs] have been published. Myofascial pain syndrome and TrPs are increasingly being recognized not only in the United States, but also in Europe. Testa and colleagues [Milan, Italy] published an excellent review article detailing the clinical signs that lead...
متن کاملMyofascial Trigger Points: Pathophysiology and Treatment
The aim of this article is to review the possible mechanisms related to the pathophysiology and treatment of myofascial trigger points with the technique of dry needling. Muscles in general and myofascial trigger points (MTrP‟s) are a major source of persistent pain (Travell 1983). Myofascial pain is often associated with MTrP‟s in muscles, tendons and fascia (Sola 1990, Simons 1999).It is char...
